Veg Rev Kits

Every make and model of vehicle has its own set of special considerations when designing an appropriate WVO system for that vehicle.  The late 1970’s and early to mid 1980’s Mercedes Benz diesels have become the most popular passenger cars of the biofuels movement, and rightfully so.  These vehicles, simply put, were over built, and their reputation has stood the test of time and unbelievable road distanced clocked.  Due to their popularity as vegetable oil burning machines we have designed three system specifically for 70's and 80’s Mercedes diesels.  Systems for other passenger cars such as VW TDI’s (For TDI's add $400-$500 to either of the two-tank kits for an approximate estimate. TDI's cannot run a single tank kit other than an Elsbett kit from Germany.) will be very similar to those listed below. Trucks systems vary greatly depending on year, model, make and size.  Contact us directly for specific quotes.

We guarantee our workmanship for up to a year on all installations.

The L.A. Cruiser Kit  - $1050 (price includes parts and labor)

I challenge you to find a more comprehensive single tank kit with more components, parts and labor, for less expense. We guarantee that our single tank kit will provide higher temperatures than any of our competitors’ kits by a long shot.  With this kit the driver can mix diesel, biodiesel (if the fuel lines are upgraded) and vegetable oil at any proportion right in the stock fuel tank. When driving in temperatures lower than 40 degrees one will need to mix regular diesel in with the vegegatble with this kit. The colder the temperature below 40, the more diesel that will need to be mixed in.

Components of the L.A. Cruiser Kit :

Coolant heated veg fuel filter – Durable aluminum tubing, re-routes hot “coolant’ coming from the engine head and around the fuel filter cartridge to heat the veg and allow it to pass through the filter more easily

Flat Plate Heat Exchanger – This is a super efficient coolant heated heat exchanger.  This is where the bulk of the heat exchange takes place.  It take the hot coolant coming out of the engine head and passes it over a series of parallel plates that exchange heat with the passing veg.

Manual 3-way Valve – This allows you to run veg in a continuous loop in your engine compartment, keeping it nice and hot, or switch the valve over to return the fuel back to the tank if you need to purge any air from the system.  Diesel engines pump more quite a bit more fuel into the injection pump then they need for each round of combustion.  This excess fuel normally gets pushed through return fuel lines and back to the tank to cool down.  Since we want our vegetable oil based fuel to stay hot, we create a loop that takes this returning fuel and pushes it right back through the three heat exchangers described above and back into the injection pump until it is sent through the injectors.

Optional Add-ons:

Injection line heaters – These low amp draw electrical heaters get the heat right where your single tank system needs it, the steel fuel lines leading up to the  injectors. This is a great way to alleviate any potential cold starting problems.

$220 (parts and labor)

Pressure Gauge - This will allow you to monitor the life of your fuel filter and prevent you from having to change a filter on the side of the highway.
$180 (parts and labor)

Temperature Gauge – This will enable you to read the temperature of your fuel right before it enters the injection pump.  This is a good way to monitor the functioning of your veg system and be reassured that you are getting the temps you need to keep your engine happy and healthy.
$180 (parts and labor)

Enlarged fuel line – Vegetable oil is thick.  Try sucking some through a straw.  Now image how your car feels trying to trying to pull that viscose fluid through a thin tube meant for less viscose diesel.  We change out the old supply fuel line so that it can accommodate the more viscose veg fuel.

$150-$250 (parts and labor, depends on the vehicle)

Assistant Fuel Pump – This is an in-line, electric fuel pump that will take a lot of pressure off your stock lift and injection pumps, and potentially extend each of their lives, as they pull the thick veg up through the fuel system system.
$180 (parts and labor)

Biodiesel Grade Fuel Lines – This will allow you run Biodiesel in your system.  Without upgraded fuel lines, biodiesel will eat through standard rubber hosing leaving you with small puddles soon-to-be ponds of fuel leaking from your car. Price varies depending on specific vehicles as some have more or less difficult connections to the fuel tank and stock fuel lines.

The “Don’t Call It Frisco” Kit - $2150 (price includes parts and labor)

This has been our most popular kit to date.  It is for anyone that wants a superior SVO kit for their vehicle but doesn’t intend on driving in sub-freezing temperatures.  This two tank kit allows the driver to start on diesel or biodiesel (if the fuel lines are upgraded) and switch over to veg when the system is hot.  Having two tanks not only gives the driver the advantage of double the driving range but also the security of know that if the veg filter clogs or there is any unforeseen complication with the veg system the fuel system defaults to normal operating mode as if nothing has been changed.

Components of the “Don’t Call It Frisco” Two Tank Kit:

Auxiliary Fuel Tank:  A second tank is mounted in the back of the car either in the trunk, the spare wheel well or behind the back seat in the case of Wagons.  We use high strength poly-tanks (thick plastic) that will endure the life of your car.  The tanks are strapped down to prevent any jostling or movement and are positioned for easy filling.  See the Projects page for examples.

Veg Fuel level Gauge – A separate fuel level gauge specifically for your veg tank will be mounted in the in or around your vehicle’s existing gauges.

Flat Plate Heat Exchanger – super efficient coolant heated heat exchanger.  This is where the bulk of the heat exchange takes place.  It take the hot coolant coming out of the engine head and passes it over a series of parallel plates that exchange heat with the passing veg.

Two Fuel Selecting Valves – These are electrically controlled, solenoid valves that allow the drive to select between veg and diesel or biodiesel.  The advantage of solenoid valves over less expensive motorized valves is that 1) they last a hell of a lot long and 2) if there is ever a problem with the system they default to normal operating mode.  We use high quality viton sealed valves that will stand up to high temperature and the volatile alkyl-esters of biodiesel.

Coolant heated veg fuel filter – Durable aluminum tubing, re-routes hot “coolant’ coming from the engine head and around the veg fuel filter cartridge to heat the veg and allow it to pass through the filter more easily

Looped Veg Fuel System – We configure our two tank systems to loop the veg fuel when running on veg and to return to normal functioning when running diesel of biodiesel.  This allows you to run veg in a continuous loop in your engine compartment, keeping it nice and hot.

Injection line heaters – These 6 Amp draw heaters get the heat right where your system needs it, the steel fuel lines leading up to the injectors. These are all the rave in the veg fuel system world these days.
$220 (parts and labor)

Pressure Gauge - This will allow you to monitor the life of both your stock fuel filter as well as the veg filter.  You’ll know exactly when your filter needs to be changed before it clogs.
$180 (parts and labor)

Aluminum or Custom Fuel Tank – If you like an aluminum fuel tank or a customized tank just let us know and we can accommodate. Prices vary per request.

Temperature Gauge – This will enable you to read the temperature of your fuel right before it enters the injection pump.  This is a good way to monitor the functioning of your veg system and be reassured that you are getting the temps you need to keep your engine happy and healthy.
$180 (parts and labor)

Assistant Fuel Pump – This is an in-line, electric fuel pump that will take a lot of pressure off your stock lift and injection pumps, and potentially extend each of their lives, as they pull the thick veg up through the fuel system system.
$180 (parts and labor)

"THE CO-PILOT" COMPUTER CONTROLLER - The Co-Pilot is a must for any conversion kit. Not only does it simplify operation and installation it will keep you from making common switching mistakes! Easy push button switching makes running on vegetable oil a breeze. The adjustable backlit LCD screen clearly displays operation temperatures and running mode, a pleasant tone notifies the driver when conditions are right to switch. In Auto function theCo-Pilot will automatically switch over to vegetable oil when the preset engine temperature is reached. Timed purge and shut down alarm eliminate the possibility of over purging and notify the operator of improper shut down.

$450 (parts and labor)

Biodiesel Grade Fuel Lines – This will allow you run Biodiesel in your system.  Without upgraded fuel lines, biodiesel will eat through standard rubber hosing leaving you with small puddles soon-to-be ponds of fuel leaking from your car.
Price varies depending on specific vehicles as some have more or less difficult connections to the fuel tank and stock fuel lines.

The Sierra Nevada Kit - $2650 (price includes parts and labor)

Click here for photos of a Sierra Nevada Kit.

This is our top of line two tank conversion kit.  With this kit you will be able to drive through a Tahoe blizzard on veg (provided you have chains for your tires and a steely eyed determination to get to the ski lift).  This kit has all the same components as the Don’t Call It Frisco kit with several important upgrades and additional components.  Even if you’re not going to drive through that snow storm, this kit is the best assurance that your vehicle is getting hot veg from tank to injectors.

Aluminum Auxiliary Fuel Tank with Heated Fuel Pick-Up -   This is the main component of the Sierra Nevada kit and what enable the driver to drive in any temperature range. A coolant heated fuel pick-up is mounted in the auxiliar fuel tank and heats the veg before it even leaves the tank. Vegetable oil jells and begins to solidify around 40 degrees.  Once it is solid it is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to get it pumped up to your heat exchangers in the engine compartment.  Even attempting to do so can cause extreme damage to your lift and (costly) injection pump.  With this kit the veg will be nice and hot on it way out of the tank and up to the engine compartment.

Hose-on-Hose Fuel Lines – The fuel line leading from the veg tank to the engine compartment is sandwiched between two hot coolant lines which prevent the warm veg from jelling half way up to the engine compartment in colder temp.

Optional Add-ons – Same as the Don’t Call It Frisco Kit and Additionally:

Hose-in-Hose Fuel Lines - The fuel line coming from the veg tank up to the engine compartment is a strong aluminum tube that is encased in a larger diameter coolant line that has hot coolant running through it. This not only keeps the veg hot on its way up to engine compartment, as the hose-on-hose line does, but continues to act as a heat exchanger heating up the oil even more along the way. For very cold climates this is must.

$190 each (parts and labor)
